I’m Ontiretse Magadzi (also known as Onti), and I am a film student and content creator, among many other things. I joined this choir in 2021 as an experienced choir kid, having been part of JCC while in primary school. I immediately loved the choir, as it gave me a sense of safety and home. I could freely be myself and was given opportunities for self-expression on stage.
I was chosen to be deputy head boy in 2022, which was an honour. I wanted to be part of the heads because I wanted to give back to the choir, as it had helped me through so much in just one year. I embraced the opportunity by focusing on social media, as we were not very active on platforms like Reels and TikTok—platforms I love. Bokang (the head girl then) and I started managing the pages and posting content. I took over in 2023 with the help of Piek and Olwethu.
In 2024, I was given the opportunity to be an intern, continuing to manage social media. The consistency in our online presence led to significant growth for the choir on various platforms. I was then promoted to official Social Media Manager in 2025, and I’ve been in this role since.
The choir has given me so much—a home, the gift of music, and even the opportunity to study. I like to think that my current position helps me give back to the choir. They say, “Being a part of something special makes you special,” but the choir has taught me that something is special because you are a part of it.
I truly believe we are changing the world one voice at a time.
