Since joining the University of Pretoria Youth Choir in 2021, Ontiretse “Onti” Magadzi has combined his passion for storytelling, creativity, and music to shape the choir’s digital presence. A film student and content creator, he quickly found more than a choir—he found a place to belong. The supportive environment of UPYC gave him the confidence to express himself both on and off the stage, inspiring him to give back through creative communication.
Beginning as Deputy Head Boy in 2022, Onti recognised the opportunity to grow the choir’s presence on emerging platforms such as Instagram Reels and TikTok. Working alongside fellow choir leaders, he helped establish a consistent and engaging social media strategy that connected the choir with new audiences and celebrated the stories behind the music.
His dedication led to an internship in 2024, where he continued to expand the choir’s digital reach, before being appointed as the official Social Media Liaison in 2025. Through authentic storytelling, engaging content, and a consistent online presence, Onti has played a key role in growing the UPYC brand and strengthening its connection with singers, alumni, supporters, and the wider community.
For Onti, social media is more than creating content—it’s about sharing purpose. Every post, video, and campaign reflects the choir’s mission of inspiring young people, building community, and changing lives through music. As he often reminds himself, “Something is special because you are a part of it.”
